Banded mourning doves provide vital information to biologists - Aug. 20, 2010
Since 2003, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Section and other partners have taken part in a long-term, multi-state banding project on mourning doves to improve information on dove life history.

DNR to conduct youth dove hunts around S.C. - Jul. 30, 2010
The S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will conduct eight Youth Dove Hunts on Sept. 4, 2010. The Youth Dove Hunts will be in the following counties: Abbeville, Charleston, Newberry, Oconee, Orangeburg, Sumter, Union and York.

Adult, youth dove hunts to be held at Draper WMA in York County - Jul. 13, 2010
Applications are due Aug. 17 for an opening day (Sept. 4) adult dove hunt and youth dove hunt at Draper Wildlife Management Area in York County.

Deadline is Aug. 13 for Union County youth dove hunt - Jul. 13, 2010
The S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service will co-sponsor a youth dove hunt at the Forest Service Sedalia Dove Field in Union County on opening day of dove season, Saturday, Sept. 4. Preregistration is required, and the deadline for registration is Friday, Aug. 13.

Now is the time to plant fields for fall mourning dove hunts - Jun. 07, 2010
Dove hunters still have time to plant fields to attract doves during the upcoming season, according to a wildlife biologist with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources.

Dove hunting resumes Nov. 21 - Nov. 10, 2009
The 2009-10 mourning dove seasons in South Carolina will resume as follows: Nov. 21-28; and Dec. 21-Jan. 15. Legal hunting hours for mourning dove season are from 30 minutes before sunrise until sunset. The daily bag limit is 15 birds per day. The state's mourning dove season is set each year by the S.C. Natural Resources Board within a framework of regulations and timetables issued by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Cane Creek dove field to open in Jocassee Gorges on Sept. 16 - Sep. 04, 2009
Visitors who travel this fall along Cane Creek Road in Jocassee Gorges in northern Pickens County will encounter some changes. The new highlight along the route is a 16-acre clearing that will provide some dove hunting in Jocassee Gorges. "It is the largest open area on the entire property," said Mark Hall, Jocassee Gorges project manager with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

10,000th dove banded by DNR - Aug. 24, 2009
Since 2003, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Section and other partners have taken part in a long-term, multi-state banding study of mourning doves to improve information on dove life history. The S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) recently banded our 10,000th dove on July 6 at Crackerneck Wildlife Management Area in Aiken County. As of mid-August that number was up to 11,400.
